Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a superspecialty that involves management of patients suffering from disorders of digestive system and liver. These patients may be suffering from simple problems like indigestion or dyspepsia, constipation, pain in the abdomen, jaundice, diarrhoea or difficult problems like blood in the vomiting or stools, liver cirrhosis, swelling abdomen, bile duct stones, cancers of gall bladder, pancreas, food pipe, stomach or intestine.

The science in gastroenterology has advanced to a stage where not only there is application of clinical sense but the application of various endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures not only the diagnoses the problem but also helps to treat these through the endoscope. Advanced & Chronic liver disease, which had no treatment in the past, can now be treated effectively using modern medicines and the facility of liver transplant is changing the scenario in patients who were otherwise destined to die. Patients with advanced GI cancers are effectively managed by procedures like stenting & chemotherapy.
